Knowing that the education of Haitian children is negatively affected by the current COVID-19 pandemic is just half of the solution. The other half is to implement a solution that will help the children get back on track. Because of our experience as clinical providers, we know the necessity of education is to the psychological and social development of children.
Educating children can be challenging, especially in a country like Haiti. However, we can leverage the technological advancements that we have gained these past few decades. One way to jumpstart education is with the use of electronic gadgets and the internet. Experts would agree that gadgets used by children, in moderation, can benefit their education. Children can learn from virtual classes which can be conducted by local teachers, or even overseas teachers!
The infrastructure needed for this style of education has to be carefully planned to benefit school-aged children.
Even as we provide home base counseling services, we have made it our mission to help underprivileged children in Haiti.
